CSV COMMUNITY
Clarendon Street Vets has been very much a part of the local community for over 60 years. Church Street Vets opened in Stapleford in March 2025, and we are equally keen to get involved in village life.
We are lucky to have many lovely and interesting clients at both our surgeries. Our ‘Pet of the Month’ feature gives us the opportunity to highlight pets who have been particularly challenged and brave, but we thought it would also be great to celebrate the achievements of some of the ‘local heroes’ who frequent the surgery.
In addition, CSV community gives us a space to tell you about the local artists who are exhibiting their work at Church Street Vets, and the local charities and community groups we will be supporting with our Paws & People donations, so please do keep an eye on this section of the website.

OUR CHARITIES
Supporting Local
We wanted to do something a little bit different in our Paws & People plan, and give back to the local community. Each quarter, we will choose 3 local charities/ community groups. £1 from each monthly Paws & People subscription will be donated to these causes. Clients can ‘vote’ with a token for their preferred recipient when visiting the surgery, and at the end of the quarter we will divide the funds accordingly.
Our three charities/ community groups this year are:
-
SWCC (Shepreth Wildlife Park Conservation Charity) runs an on-site Hedgehog Hospital for the treatment and rehabilitation of hedgehogs, before their release back into the wild. Hedgehogs are brought in from across Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, as well as from surrounding areas, such as Greater London, Suffolk and Bedfordshire.
Members of the public often bring injured hedgehogs or young animals that are too small to survive the winter into the surgery. Those that need ongoing care often end up at the SWCC Hedgehog Hospital, so we are very happy to support their mission.

The 11th/9th Newnham Scouts provide fun and inclusive opportunities for young people aged 6 to 18 to grow, learn, and form lifelong friendships. The troop is run by a dedicated group of volunteers who are currently raising funds to replace the troop minibus. The minibus gives the troop freedom to plan camps and daytrips, and having group transport helps keep trips affordable and inclusive.
Your Paws & People donations will help them reach their goal in time for spring!

SSYI is a local charity dedicated to supporting young people aged 10–18 across Great and Little Shelford, Stapleford, Sawston, Duxford, and the surrounding villages. Working with over 300 young people every year, their mission is to ensure that support, guidance, and engaging activities are accessible to everyone, particularly those who are isolated, marginalised, or under-reached by mainstream services.
The services provided by SSYI include one-to-one support, engagement with local schools, the provision of safe, community spaces, and enriching trips. We are keen to help SSYI continue to provide such important resources for local young people.
LOCAL ARTIST
Jackie Duckworth
Our new branch surgery in Stapleford has such a lot of lovely wall space that we felt it would be a shame for it to go to waste. We are inviting local artists to display their work, some, but not all of which is animal themed. Not only does this brighten our surgery, but hopefully also gives the many talented artists in the area a chance to show-case their work. Our third artist. exhibiting until the end of March, is Jackie Duckworth.
Jackie is a printmaker and illustrator, based in Fulbourn. She studied at Cambridge School of Art (Anglia Ruskin) and works mainly in Linocut, producing small, limited editions. Her favourite subjects include birds, animals, history and mythology.
Jackie is a member of Cambridge Open Studies, and exhibits her work in her own home every July. She exhibits at various other events and exhibitions, has lots of work (both framed and unframed) available to buy on her website, and for the next few months you can come and enjoy her work here at the surgery!
Local Heroes
Gone but not forgotten
The saddest part of our job is saying goodbye, and we often receive lovely photos of pets who are no longer with us. If you would like to send a photo or memory of companion we would love to help their memory live on.
