July News

We hope you are all keeping well and enjoying, or at least enduring, the ongoing hot dry weather. Our current grass seed removal tally has now passed 80. We have removed lots from ears and paws, a few from noses and eyes, and most unusually one from the mammary gland of our pet of the month for July, Margo.

We have been receiving lots of fledgling birds who are not quite able to fly. It’s normal for most garden birds to spend a few days on the ground between leaving the nest and flying away. The parents are usually close by, keeping an eye out and supplying them with food. If they are not in immediate danger or obviously injured, they stand the best chance of survival if left alone. The RSPCA have some useful info on fledgling birds, and you can always give us a call if you find one that does appear to be injured or at immediate risk.

Our biggest news this month is the launch of our long-awaited health plan, Paws and People. We have 3 types of plans available; a cat plan, a dog plan, and a large dog plan (for dogs over 25kg.) The plans are designed to help spread the cost of routine pet care and include vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, a free consultation (in addition to the annual check-up at booster time) and 10 percent off EVERYTHING else! More info can be found on our website, and you can sign up via PetsApp.

Did you know, pets can have allergies too? Our pets can react to food and environmental allergies just like we can, and symptoms can include skin and ear problems, digestive issues and in some cases respiratory problems. Anyone who has owned a pet with allergies will know that diagnosis and treatment can be difficult, ongoing and expensive.

On Wednesday 24th of September we will be hosting a client evening on ‘Understanding and Managing Allergy in Pets’ at our Church Street Surgery. We will look at the causes of allergy, the various treatment options and answer any questions you might have. It’s a free event, with a 7pm start and light refreshments. Details will soon be up on the website. In the meantime, please call the surgery to book a place if you are interested in coming along.

We were sad to cancel our Stapleford weekend Dog Show at the end of June. We still enjoyed meeting and greeting clients old and new at the event, as did Africa, the giant Sulcata tortoise, who is perfectly adapted to the hot weather. We really hope our next community event, the Dog show at the Little Shelford Village Weekend on September 13th, can go ahead as planned.

As always, if you have any questions about any aspect of your pet’s health, please do get in touch.

Best wishes,

Patrick, Harriet and all the CSV team.
